External table doesn't read data from standard-partitioned table

Hello, I created a table with standard partitioning and loaded some data into it. When I create an external table pointed to the store location, I don’t see any rows returned for my queries. I tried the same test with an unpartitioned table and I am able to query the data. Is this a limitation of external tables?

Spark 2.3.2

Carbondata 1.5.0

Azure Data Lake (ADLS/HDFS) filesystem
